Events Happening in North Norfolk

When you’re heading out on your holiday, it’s nice to know whether there are any local events happening that coincide with your visit. North Norfolk and the surrounding Norfolk areas, have plenty of events that are scheduled to take place, all throughout the year.

Our North Norfolk holiday cottages are perfectly situated for you to visit a wide variety of these events, and then head back for some rest and relaxation. If you would like to know more about our properties, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

As there are so many events that happen throughout Norfolk we haven’t added specific dates as these are subject to change – please refer to the individual events websites for more specific information and tickets. Please note these are the usual annual events for the area, but this is subject to change.

January

Takes place on Hay Hill in Norwich where over 57,000 LED lights are on display forming a tunnel over this part of the city.

Walsingham Abbey’s 18 acres of woodland, bloom into a carpet of white snowdrops, creating a beautiful backdrop for winter walks.

February

This fair is a great place to visit to find antiques, furniture, vintage products and retro items.

Held in the evenings, the city of Norwich is lit up with installations, projections and performances transforming the city.

March

Hundreds of local artists and crafters meet to showcase and sell their products with demonstrations and workshops also available.

  • Discover the local bluebells

The bluebell season which starts at the end of March until May, creates a range of stunning walks for you to enjoy, find out more here about some of our favourite bluebell walks in North Norfolk.

April

Perfect for all the family, the East Anglian Game and Country Fair is full of exhibitors including the parachute display team, dog displays, food halls and attractions.

Taking place at the Sandringham Estate, this festival celebrates local crafters and food producers and has family entertainment and live music, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

  • Local markets

Norfolk is home to many beautiful towns that host their own markets throughout the year. Burnham Market, Creake Abbey and Sandringham, all host excellent farmers market with local producers selling high quality and delicious food and drink. Located, very closely to our holiday cottages, Holt town centre also hosts a weekly market, every Sunday, with over 50 different businesses and street food vendors. May

With events happening all over Norfolk, the festival transforms the city, beaches and venues across the region with performers, outdoor activities and family.

Across Cromer and Sheringham, there is a wide range of activities including concerts, cookery theatres, live music and seafood trails.

June

One for the adults, the Gin and Rum Festival helps showcase the best rum and gin that the region has to offer.

The Royal Norfolk show is the largest agricultural show in the country with over 700 trade stands, food and drink and a grand ring programme.

Held at Cromer, the festival attracts vintage lovers to enjoy the pier and promenade that is decorated to resemble the bygone era. Vintage cars, stalls and live music are all to be expected.

  • Discover the beautiful Rhododendrons

Visit Sheringham Park and enjoy the nationally important collection of Rhododendrons that bloom here each year. North Norfolk is home to a wide selection of parks and stately home gardens which are open to the public, that each summer flower, creating a beautiful backdrop for a countryside walk.

July

Located in the centre of town, just up the road for our holiday cottages, Holt is transformed with music, visual arts, comedy, street theatre and drama. All of the local businesses often remain open to the public with the independent shops offering their locally made and sourced products.

One of the most prestigious horticultural events in the East of England, it attracts many visitors to see the colourful gardens and exhibitors.

Traditional summer carnival displaying floats, fancy dress and dancers including the carnival procession which travels through the town.

Held in the city centre, Norwich Pride celebrates all communities helping them feel safe and proud.

Grab your picnic blankets and enjoy a delightful range of street food and drinks from the regions local producers, who congregate in Holkham estate to provide guests with a delicious offering.

This award-wining show is held in the theatre located on the Cromer Pier. With special affects, bespoke costumes and powerful vocals, the whole family will enjoy the show. The show begins at the start of July and runs through until the end of September.

August

Throughout the town, Sheringham Carnival celebrates music, dancing and local businesses with a carnival procession.

With a fairground, amusements, live music, rides and local food the carnival parade is popular with families and couples.

Held at the Blickling Estate, this outdoor celebration of dance tunes is performed by Urban Soul Orchestra.

  • Sandringham Concerts

At the Sandringham Estate there is either a concert or Proms in the garden attended by headline acts.

Held on the August bank holiday the Aylsham Show has a wide selection of attractions including food and drink stalls, livestock, stunt displays, parachute display teams, dog agility and childrens events.

September

Festival held on the Norfolk Showground bringing some of the top artists, with fun fair rides, music and art installations.

Features local food and drink producers including meat, cakes, vegetables, beer and juices as well as a cookery theatre holding demonstrations.

Country wares, sports, music, vintage engines and craft stalls can all be found at the Sandringham Game and Country Fair.

Transport yourself back to the 40s with music, re-enactments, steam train trips and vintage outfits.

October

Bavarian beers served in steins and bratwurst are all available at this event where fancy dress isn’t necessary but highly encouraged!

  • Pumpkin Picking

Most of our local farms have pumpkin picking activities for all the family. Some of our favourites include the Pumpkin House, Wroxham Barns and Hill Farm.

November and December

Held at various venues throughout Norfolk, the Norwich Film festival showcases local and national short films, with workshops also available.

Holt comes alive with local businesses, events and shopping as well as the Christmas light switch on, you can find more information here.

  • Christmas Markets and Lights

Each town tends to have their own market and light switch on, meaning there are so many different markets to keep you busy! For our favourites take a look here.

  • Cromer Boxing Day Dip

The North Norfolk Beach Runners hold the official boxing day dip at Cromer to raise money for the Sarcoma UK charity. Join them if you are feeling brave, but remember to take your towel and a warm drink!

The Cromer Pier Show gets a fabulous Christmas update and gets you deep in the Christmas spirit with their video wall, variety performances and festive fun.

Well loved by locals and visitors, the Thursford Christmas Spectacular is not to be missed! With non-stop singing, dancing, humour and variety performances, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This event is often sold out, so we recommend booking quickly to avoid disappointment! You can find out more about Christmas activities in and around Holt here.
