Family outings
Norfolk is generous to families, and all four of these are close enough to be back at the cottage in time for tea. Zoos, dinosaurs, wetlands and one very large playground. Please see below a few of our favourites.

Amazona Zoo
Over two hundred birds and animals from South America across fifteen acres on the edge of Cromer, among them jaguar, puma, monkeys, otters and caiman, plus an aquarium. Two play areas keep smaller visitors going, Jungle Tumbles under cover and Rainforest Springs outside with its jumping pillows. Close enough to the town centre to walk in afterwards and finish the day crabbing off the pier.
Pensthorpe Natural Park
Seven hundred acres of lakes, meadow and woodland just outside Fakenham, familiar to anyone who watched Springwatch in the years it was filmed here. Five landscaped gardens, seven family bird hides and a sculpture trail made by local artists, with WildRootz outdoors and Hootz House under cover when the weather turns. Worth knowing before you set off that dogs are not allowed in the reserve, the gardens or the play areas.
Thursford Adventure Play Fair
A fairground themed adventure playground near Fakenham, thirty thousand square feet of it, built for children from toddlers up to about fourteen. Giant slides, climbing towers and water play laid out around a carousel, with shade and seating for whoever is not climbing. It is outdoors throughout, so save it for a dry day and take a change of clothes.
ROARR! Dinosaur Adventure
Eighty five acres of woodland about half an hour away, with more than twenty five attractions included in one ticket and animatronic dinosaurs along the trail through the trees. Predator High Ropes, the raceways and the splash zone for the brave, and the indoor play barn and theatre for a wet afternoon. Aimed at children up to about fifteen, and comfortably a whole day.
