Holt Light Switch On

One of the main Christmas events that's definitely not to be missed is the town light switch on. Unlike surrounding villages this is a festive event with a twist! The main attraction is seeing the town lights and Christmas tree turned on, however there is plenty more to do.

The event is held in November and festivities start from 5.30pm.

Starting in style with a range of entertainment, the most famed event for Holt takes place at 6.15pm. The Panto Race has become renowned for its comedy value as over fifteen panto horses race down the high street to take victory and the notorious Sowerbys Cup. Following the winners being crowned the parade begin at 6.30pm with the light switch on and fireworks beginning at 7pm. There is also live music in the town centre until 9pm.

Many of the local businesses stay open late for this event, providing visitors with a range of both independent and high-street shopping opportunities. There will also be plenty of food and drinks stalls to keep you merry through the celebrations. Popular with children and families of all ages, this is definitely one Christmas light switch on not to be missed.

Christmas Markets

During November and December the weekly Sunday Holt markets are given a festive makeover. The market place and Star Plain remain closed to vehicles as over 40 different local crafters and suppliers provide you with a unique shopping experience. Also in attendance is 6 different street food traders to help satisfy your hunger as you browse the selection of wares. We would recommend pre booking your parking as the Christmas markets in particular are very popular and car parks get full quickly.

Other Local Festive Activities

Located just 15 minutes from the centre of Holt, Thursford is a great place for a visit. The Thursford Christmas Spectacular is a well known and loved show which is popular with both locals and tourists, so much so the tickets often sell out. The show runs from early November until the 23rd December, we recommend booking your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

There is also plenty of coastal walks to enjoy the weather and scenery, all within walking distance of pubs and restaurants to warm up and enjoy the local cuisine.
