If you are thinking of bringing your fishing rod on your holiday then please ensure that you are compliant and have the correct licence and permissions in place before casting.

Beach Fishing

Stand on the edge of the beach and cast your lines into the waves along the North Norfolk coast to catch Bass, Tope and Cod. In the summer months you may be lucky and catch mackerel, in the late autumn you may also be able to catch species such as Whiting and Codling.

Beach anglers are free to fish the shores and you do not need a licence as long as you are fishing from the shore and into the sea. If in doubt it is always worth checking with the local authorities. Some of the best locations for beach fishing in North Norfolk include casting from Wells-next-the-sea, Cley and Salthouse beaches.

Sea Fishing

What is sea fishing and what can you catch in the area?

The East coast of England is full of opportunities for catching a variety of different species as the water is home to many habitats. Sea fishing is generally split into beach fishing and boat fishing. The abundance of charter boat fleets around North Norfolk has increased the popularity and accessibility of sea fishing. Boat fishing gives you the opportunity to catch species that may be unavailable for beach anglers. Species that can be caught in this location include Skate, Sea bass and Mullet.

What do you need to go sea fishing?

When heading out on a boat you want to make sure that you have everything you need for a successful trip with you. The standard equipment of lures, line clippers, rods and reels apply but you may want to think about the bait and weights. For beach fishing different weights can help you cast further despite the weather or sea conditions. The bait you take should reflect the species of fish you are hoping to catch. One of the most popular baits is marine worms as they are found abundantly around the area and are a common food for the local fish.

Do not worry if you are visiting the area and have forgotten some of your equipment, as fishing is a popular pastime time there are plenty of tackle and bait shops lining the coast. If you are hiring a boat to go sea fishing they often provide you with any additional equipment that you may need for a successful trip.

Local businesses offering sea fishing trips

Norfolk Sea Fishing Trips is a local business run by Ben Riches offering sea fishing trips from Wells-next-the-sea. Operating from April to November, they offer half day, full days and wreck fishing trips throughout the year. One of the most popular trips they offer is the Mackerel Sea fishing which starts from just £35.

Another firm favourite is Off the Hook Sea Fishing Trips which again operates from Wells. All equipment and bait are provided and help and demonstrations are available from your skipper for the more novice anglers.

Our North Norfolk holiday cottages are located close to many of the local waterways and coast, giving you the opportunity to fish both salt and freshwater species. They are also perfectly positioned to allow those who may not share your passion for fishing to explore and enjoy the other activities the area has to offer. For more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
