Romantic Things to do in North Norfolk

For those having a romantic breakaway over Valentines, or just making the most of a long weekend together, North Norfolk is the perfect place to escape and enjoy each other’s company whilst exploring the beautiful countryside. Our romantic holiday cottages are beautifully positioned in tranquil surroundings, allowing you to spend quality time together.

Norfolk is thought to be home to the Valentine’s tradition. The earliest known Valentine was sent in Norfolk in 1477, over 350 years before the first printed Valentine’s cards began to appear. Locals still keep alive one of the traditions, Jack Valentine who disappears after knocking on the door and leaving presents. Though this might not be your cup of tea, it remains that Norfolk is one of the best areas to visit for a couples retreat. Take a look below at our recommendations for things to do when you’re visiting North Norfolk over Valentines or for your romantic break away.

Explore the Local Area

  • Nothing says romance like a sunset walk on the beach. North Norfolk is home to some of the best beaches in the region and the long stretches of Holkham beach have even been featured in the film Shakespeare in Love. Old Hunstanton beach is particularly good for sunsets as it is the only East coast beach that faces West.
  • Swans are often depicted as the symbol of romance, and North Norfolk is home to thousands. One of the best places to see these in mass numbers is on the Norfolk Broads.
  • Norfolk is famed for the broads and it’s not hard to see why. The large number of waterways are best explored by boat, with hire readily available from Wroxham. There are also a large number of pubs and restaurants situated on the edge of the river where you can disembark and stop for lunch.
  • Located just up the road from our holiday cottages in Kelling Heath which is one of only two locations in Norfolk to be awarded Dark Sky Discovery Sites, perfect for watching the stars. If you’re lucky enough you may be able to see the Aurora Borealis due to the clear, uninterrupted views over the countryside.

Have a Spa Day

Located in Fakenham, Ficarras Spa offers beauty and holistic treatments 6 days a week. Perfect for spending some R&R together, you can both have some treatments and then relax together. There is also an onsite swimming pool and sauna and a disability friendly treatment room, so everyone can enjoy the experience. Treatments you can have include: massage, facials, manicures, waxing and eyelash treatments.

Enjoy a Romantic Meal

  • A luxury meal out eating fresh, seasonal produce is a great way to spend the evening. Morston Hall is one of the best fine dining restaurants in North Norfolk run by chef Galton Blackiston. The tasting menu changes every day, showing off the beautiful produce that is grown and produced locally.
  • For those who enjoy seafood, Wells Crab House is one of the best in the area for champagne and oysters and lobster. This is also closely positioned to the famed Holkham beach, perfect for an evening stroll before returning to your holiday cottage for a relaxing evening.

Norfolk is the perfect escape for all things romance. If you would like to know more about our holiday cottages for romantic breaks or our last minute availability, please don’t hesitate to get in touch
