Fairhaven Water Gardens

For those visiting North Norfolk, there is no shortage of activities and attractions to keep your itinerary full. Opposed to the traditional zoos and family activities there are a wide selection of unique attractions including Fairhaven woodland and water garden

Fairhaven is located in South Walsham, and although it is around an hour’s drive from our luxury self-catering holiday cottages, it is well worth a visit if you are in the area. The journey itself is throughout beautiful areas of Norfolk and takes you close to a few of our other favourite attractions including BeWILDerwood.

About Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden

Set in 130 acres of cultivated, wild and natural plants and woodland, Fairhaven is a beautiful attraction suited to nature lovers. Created by Major Henry Broughton who became the 2nd Lord Fairhaven and originally run as a private estate, the garden was requested to be left in Trust for the public to enjoy after his death in 1973. During his ownership the garden was sorted and planted with a range of local and imported plants, creating a beautiful display of thousands of plants which are in full bloom throughout May and June. Fairhaven is open all year round and has plenty to see and do.

What to see and do at Fairhaven

One of the main things people travel to Fairhaven for is its collection of candelabra primulas. The flora blooms all year round with bluebells, camellias and wood anemones bloom in the spring with oranges and reds taking over in the autumn. Due to its wide range of plant life and its location to the broads, there is a diverse set of wildlife that you can also see including migrant birds, kingfishers, muntjac deer and even otters. When entering the attraction you also have exclusive access to the private area of the South Walsham inner broad that is part of the Fairhaven estate. The 4 miles of woodland pathways take you through the beautiful scenery and diverse plant life. The park is dog friendly, however, they must be kept on leads at all times to protect and stop the wildlife from being disturbed.

There is also the opportunity to go on 20-minute boat trips around the South Walsham broad for a small extra charge, taking you on a tour of this exclusive area.
