Family Attractions in North Norfolk

Finding something to occupy your family during weekends and school holidays can seem like a never-ending task. North Norfolk has an abundance of things to do with your children that can be enjoyed whatever the weather. From nature reserves, public gardens and zoos, to beaches and theme parks, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s a selection of some of the best family attractions in North Norfolk, all located close to our Kelling holiday cottages.

Amazona Zoo

Located just inland of Cromer, Amazona Zoo gives you the chance to discover over 200 animals which take up residency there. With flamingos, caiman, spider monkeys, and owls there’s a wide range of Brazilian animals to learn about, creating both a fun and educational day out. The most recent addition to the zoo is Balam the Jaguar, who joined in the beginning of 2022.

The Zoo is suitable for a wide range of ages, under 12’s will love to spend a few hours on the Jungle Tumbles Soft Way Play Adventure. There are also at least four feeding animal events each day which provides the opportunity for children to have memorable experiences on their visit; perfect if your little ones are animal lovers.

ROAAR! Dinosaur Adventure

If you have any dinosaur lovers in your family, a trip to Lenwade is a must. ROARR! Dinosaur adventure has a wide range of both indoor and outdoor activities suitable for explorers of all ages. The Dinosaur Trail is a woodland walk complete with over 110 life sized dinosaurs and the Dinomite play area is the largest indoor play area in Norfolk. There is also an outdoor water park, parallel sky rails, and an indoor theatre.

The facilities onsite are perfect for children of all ages and there are a range of food and drink options, many themed around dinosaurs.

Thrigby Hall

Home to Sumatran Tigers, Red Pandas, Snow Leopards and Gibbons, Thrigby Hall wildlife gardens near Great Yarmouth is a great day out. The park also contains a few different play areas suitable for different age ranges. The Tree Tops Ropes play area and 3D adventure maze are perfect for those a little older, with another maze and slide suitable for younger children located just a short walk away.

Unique to Thrigby is its network of walkways. The Jubilee Tree Walk has fantastic views of the park and the Tiger Tree Walk takes you directly over the tiger enclosure.

There is also the Cockatoo Café which serves a range of hot and cold food and provides refreshment after visiting the animals.

BeWILDerwood

Located deep in the woodland near the Norfolk Broads, BeWILDderwood is an award-winning outdoor adventure park. With magical treehouses and curious characters the park encourages imaginative play in natural surroundings. The park consists of crafts, boat rides, The Towering Treetop Tangles climbing frames and the Sky Maze. Those children that love to play in the great outdoors will love building dens in the woods, parents are also encouraged to get involved and let their imagination run wild.

The park also has a café providing delicious food and drink to its visitors. Despite being in the woods, even in bad weather there’s plenty going on as there are canopies over most of the structures. The park does close between November and February, but don’t worry! There’s plenty of other places to visit whilst you are waiting for the park to reopen.

Sea Life Centre

There are two Sea Life Centres in Norfolk, Hunstanton and Great Yarmouth. Providing visitors with a memorable undersea experience filled with close encounters with creatures who usually lurk in the deep, the Sea Life centre is a great way to spend your day. Home to over 2,000 sea creatures including sharks and starfish, and marine creatures including penguins and otters, there are many different species to learn about and admire.

Visiting the Sea Life centre is a great way to get a closer look at the animals you don’t usually see. Sharks and turtles swim above you as you walk through the underwater tunnel and the interactive aquarium zones both teach and inspire. With an onsite rescue centre and VIP experiences, there is something for everyone to enjoy, both parents and children.

Pettitts Animal Adventure Park

Pettitts is a family friendly theme park with plenty of rides suitable for children, a range of animals, live shows and both indoor and outdoor play areas. The park is home to a number of different animals including snakes, macaws, reptiles, meerkats and lemurs. It’s a great family day out where you can pet and feed the animals, watch live shows and enjoy the rides.

There are also a range of different themed play areas including the construction play beach and a Robin Hood playground with climbing frames and slides. Pettitts is suitable for children of all ages and is a great place to have fun together. Recently there have also been a few park updates which have been well received by guests and frequent visitors alike.

Wroxham Barns

An award-winning destination in Hoveton, Wroxham Barns has a range of activities and things to do. The Fun Park is just that, with jumping pillows, go karts, sand play and water fun. The Junior Farm is perfect for the little animal lover in your life and includes animal experiences with alpacas, ponies, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens.

There is always something happening at Wroxham Barns, they host many seasonal events throughout the year including a live lambing experience and a pumpkin festival.

Throughout the whole of North Norfolk there are plenty of family attractions to suit every budget, family size and ages. All of these are located within a short drive of our North Norfolk holiday cottages and provide a perfect base for exploring what the area has to offer.
