There is also plenty of fertile soil and talented local farmers who tend to the land, creating delicious and fresh produce which is used in the cafes and restaurants throughout the region.

When staying in one of our North Norfolk holiday cottages you may pop out for the day to explore what the area has to offer. We’ve put together a few of our favourite places to grab a bite to eat and relax in between visiting some of the local towns and villages.

The Sitting Room, Sheringham

Located just off the High Street in Sheringham, The Sitting Room is the perfect place to enjoy a light lunch between shopping. Serving a mixture of pastries and homemade sausage rolls as well as coffee and wine, there is something to suit every taste bud and craving. If you’re lucky there is also the option of a Too Good to Throw bag, selling the sweets treats that don’t quite look the part at a reduced price helping to reduce waste.

Byford’s, Holt

A short distance from our holiday cottages, Byfords is located in the town centre of Holt. Famed for its wide and varied menu including cakes, scones, sandwiches, pizzas and ice cream, there is a wide selection of foods to try. They also offer a handy takeaway and store service, so if you’d like to take something back to your cottage for a late-night snack you can enjoy the locally made produce as you kick back and relax.

Biddy’s Tea Room, Aylsham & Norwich

Biddy’s has two tea rooms located in Norfolk, one in the pretty market town of Aylsham and the other in the lanes of Norwich. Serving cakes, bakes and afternoon teas to local people and visitors, it has become renowned as one of the places to stop at when visiting these areas. With a unique Victorian tea house feel and small seating areas there is definitely a quaint, wholesome feel to this cafe.

Café No 33, Norwich

Always with a queue outside, Café No 33 is a popular café with all those who know about it – particularly for breakfast. With very generous portions and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere the café is a great place to catch your breath after exploring and shopping in the city centre of Norwich. There’s a wide menu to choose from with a range of specialty coffees and loose-leaf teas and a wide menu, you’ll have to be quick to sample their delights as they do not take bookings.

Garden Terrace Café, Kelling

The perfect destination to meet friends and have a bite to eat, The Garden Terrace Café is conveniently located in our very own Holt Garden Centre. The unique positioning allows you to have a browse after eating and provides a stunning view of the countryside to enjoy whilst eating our homemade cakes. The outside terrace looks over the garden which contains a specially designed wooden playground, perfect for the little ones to enjoy whilst you have a coffee. We pride ourselves on supporting local suppliers and businesses and use honey from the Estate and local produce from H.V. Graves. Freshly made cakes and food is offered daily with the option of booking for our very well received afternoon teas. There is something for everyone including various dairy and gluten free options, and we even offer something for your four-legged friends with our new pupsicles.

North Sea Coffee Co, Cromer

Perfect for catching a drink whilst strolling along the promenade, the North Sea Coffee Co is located just off the beach at Cromer. This small independent coffee bar serves specialty coffees and cakes to keep you well fuelled as you explore the beach. A few nights through the year the café transforms the promenade into a late-night music venue serving alcohol alongside the beach. Enjoy the sea views whilst you have a drink and explore one of the best beaches in the region.

Wells Crab House, Wells-next-to-sea

With the harbour of Wells-next-to-sea just a stone’s throw from the front door of this café, it’s no wonder that they specialise in serving local and seasonal seafood dishes. With only 10 tables and run by a husband-and-wife team, there is a relaxed and intimate atmosphere at the Wells Crab House. All the produce can be traced back to its origins with the team members happy to tell you the name of the fisherman who caught your lunch.

As you can see there are many fantastic, local places to stop for lunch in North Norfolk. Sample the local produce whilst you visit and enjoy the area on a full stomach before returning to your holiday cottage for a well-earned rest.
