Designed in the Early 1900s to be the Finest Sporting Estate in the Country

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and idyllic views, the Kelling Estate and Kelling Hall is first and foremost a family home. Situated within the civil parish of Kelling, just a short drive from Holt and the North Norfolk coast, Kelling Estate consists of Kelling Hall, a stunning Grade II* listed building nestled within 2,250 acres of grounds.

Thought to be the first important commission for the architect Sir Edward Maufe the estate was built in early 1913. The hall itself displays Maufe’s links to the Art and Crafts movement, evident by the butterfly plan, knapped flint walls and gabled roof.

Consisting of a shooting lodge, tennis courts, and five reception rooms, it was designed to be one of the finest sporting estates in Norfolk. Commissioned originally by Sir Henri Deterding who helped to found the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company, now known as Shell, his own family have lived in the estate for generations. Bought by the Widdowson family in 2008 the Estate has been sensitively restored and is still very much at heart a family home. Through diversification the Estate has grown to over 2,250 acres and is now composed of other businesses and properties.

“Kelling Estate is where historic charm meets beautiful countryside. Conservation and biodiversity is at the heart of the Estate, as it is home to both restored woodland and land that is farmed on a rotation basis. The Kelling Estate strives to protect the charm of the North Norfolk countryside through focused conservation efforts and year-round grounds maintenance.”
