Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the surrounding areas and natural landscape are at the heart of the Estate and as such planning and decision making is heavily influenced by the environment, keeping conservation and biodiversity at the forefront of our endeavours.

The Kelling Estate is where historic charm meets the beautiful countryside and aims to invest into the local economy and put in place initiatives to protect and re-establish habitats and its flora and fauna for future generations. Our mission is to protect the charm of the North Norfolk countryside through focused conservation planning.

The Estate has changed its focus from farming to conservation, allocating more and more of its acreage to environmental activities and sustainable practices. From the beginning of 2022 we are proud to be officially part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, designing and tailoring our strategy to benefit the local area and environment.

As part of our efforts we manage the woodland and habitats on the Estate as well as the hedgerows that line the roads. Coppicing and maintenance through cutting are only undertaken at certain times of the year to allow hedges to fruit and provide food over cooler months and to allow undisturbed nesting.

As the Kelling Road, Holgate Hill and The Street are located through the centre of the Estate and its fields, roadside verges and hedges are cut more frequently for safe use.

The Estate diversifies to offer those wishing to escape to rural North Norfolk a selection of luxury holiday homes, cottages, and long term residential properties.

Located just a stone’s throw away from Holt, the Kelling Estate is perfectly positioned to promote and support local schools, causes and charities.

Consisting of many different businesses including the Holt Garden Centre, the Estate has many avenues in which it can support local causes. With constant conservation works and environmental activities, schools can benefit from learning about the history of the Estate and local agriculture. Charities are welcomed and encouraged to get in touch regarding events and ways that we can help. We currently support a few charities significant to the Widdowson family and the community, and happily promote their amazing work and sponsored events through use of the Estate and donations.
